Lille Président wants a postponement, Marseille refuse

As part of Ligue 1’s Matchday 27, the game between Olympique de Marseille and Lille has been scheduled for 5:15 p.m. due to the risk of unrest linked to the results of the municipal elections. A timetable that does not please LOSC.

Despite an initial refusal from the LFP board of directors, Lille president Olivier Létang continues to demand that the match be postponed to a later date. “The match against Marseille could not be scheduled at 8:45 p.m., as the Ligue 1+ broadcaster and the Professional Football League wanted, because the relevant authorities considered the security risks to be too high.”

Lille push for postponement ahead of European clash

“That is the position of the state services. But in my view, by playing at 5:15 p.m., our delegation will leave the stadium between 8:30 and 9 p.m. By then, everyone will know the results. If the Police Prefecture considers it too dangerous to play at 8:45 p.m., why would our delegation be safer leaving the stadium at that time?” he explained in comments reported by L’Équipe.

A potential postponement would obviously suit Lille, who travel to Aston Villa on Thursday for their Europa League clash. For their part, Marseille oppose the idea and believe that “there is no issue.”
