This is another blow for Neymar. Left out of Brazil’s squad for the upcoming international break, the Santos forward once again sees the Seleção slip away from him. An absence that reflects poorly on the former PSG player, even if hopes of playing in the 2026 World Cup are still alive.
Carlo Ancelotti was quick to ease tensions. The Brazil head coach insists Neymar has not been excluded for sporting reasons, but purely due to fitness concerns. “He can play in the World Cup. If he’s not here, it’s because he’s not at 100%,” he explained, emphasizing the demands of top-level competition.
A Painful but Not Final Absence
The Italian coach made it clear: the issue is not talent. Neymar remains, in his view, a unique player, still exceptionally comfortable with the ball. However, his current physical condition prevents him from fully competing with other international players, in a context where every spot is highly contested.
For his part, Neymar did not hide his frustration. “I am disappointed and sad not to have been selected,” he admitted, while showing determination to return to his best level. The goal is simple: regain full fitness, deliver consistent performances, and win back the trust of the Brazilian staff.
“I can’t ignore this. But I stay focused, day after day, training after training, match after match. I remain focused. We will reach our goal. The final selection is still ahead,” he said during a Mad House stream. Despite the doubts, Ancelotti continues to believe in his potential, even suggesting he has not yet fully reached it. But time is running out. Between injuries, repeated absences, and increasing competition, Neymar now has a lot at stake in the race for the 2026 World Cup.
