Not selected for Brazil’s upcoming international gathering, Neymar has not been ruled out of the race for the 2026 World Cup. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti sought to reassure fans regarding the Santos forward’s current situation.
Ancelotti reassured Neymar about his chances of making the 2026 World Cup. Left out of the squad due to his current physical condition, the former PSG player must regain full fitness if he hopes to rejoin the Seleção in the coming months.
A Physical Issue, Not a Technical One
Carlo Ancelotti was keen to clarify the reasons behind Neymar’s absence. “Neymar can play in the World Cup. If I didn’t call him up, it’s because he’s not at 100%, and I need players who are fully fit.”
The Italian coach emphasized the player’s physical condition while praising his unchanged technical abilities. “He needs to keep working to regain good physical form. It’s purely physical, not technical. He is very comfortable with the ball.”
Despite his experience and status, Neymar has yet to fully reach his potential according to his coach. “For the technical staff and myself, he hasn’t fully exploited his potential yet.” Proof that he remains in the plans, Ancelotti and his staff had even planned to monitor him recently in Mirassol. However, Neymar ultimately had to withdraw, further delaying his return to the spotlight. Neymar also responded: “I’ll speak out here because I can’t let this go unnoticed. Obviously, I’m disappointed and sad not to have been selected. But I stay focused, day after day, training after training, match after match. I stay focused. We will reach our goal. There is still the final selection,” he said on the Mad House stream.
