It is now official: the Coupe de France final will not take place as initially planned. The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed this Tuesday that the match has been rescheduled to Friday, May 22 at 9 p.m., still at the Stade de France.
The Stade de France remains the chosen venue, but the date has changed. Originally scheduled for Saturday, May 23, the match could not be held on that day due to construction work related to the Grand Paris project. The possibility of relocating the final has been ruled out, as the Federation ultimately decided to keep the iconic Saint-Denis stadium.
The symbolic importance of the Stade de France
In its official statement, the FFF emphasized the symbolic significance of the Stade de France, which has hosted major finals since 1998 and ensures sporting fairness. The stadium will therefore host another final, the 108th in the competition’s history.
However, the change is not without complications. France Télévisions will face scheduling difficulties, as the rugby Challenge Cup final is also set to take place on the same evening.
