Defending champions, Paris Saint-Germain are not favorites against Bayern Munich and will once again need to defy the odds.
Outsiders? Yes, PSG are under real pressure in the UEFA Champions League. Despite their dominant performance against Liverpool FC (2-0, 2-0), the Parisian side has not fully convinced statistical models. Worse still, they clearly head into their semi-final as underdogs.
Statistical Models Favor Bayern Munich
According to Opta, PSG have only a 39% chance of reaching the final, compared to 61% for Bayern. A gap that highlights just how tough the challenge will be for Luis Enrique’s men, especially against a team that has often been their nemesis.
In the other semi-final, the trend is even clearer. Arsenal FC are heavy favorites against Atlético de Madrid, with a 73% chance of qualification compared to just 27% for the Spanish side.
On paper, this points toward a nearly predictable final without PSG. But Paris are familiar with this kind of scenario. Last year already, they proved the statistics wrong. Once again, they will need to show that numbers don’t tell the whole story.
