Despite the cancellation of the African champion title following the final victory against Morocco (1-0 after extra time), Pape Gueye does not accept the decision. The Villarreal midfielder, who scored that night, insists that Senegal remains the true winner on the pitch.

No way! Pape Gueye refuses to hand back his Africa Cup of Nations medal after the annulment of Senegal’s victory. The 27-year-old fully stands by the position of the Lions of Teranga and relies on the sporting result to defend this disputed title.

“I’m not ready to give back my medal. The whole world knows very well that the cup was won by Senegal.” It’s hard to imagine AFCON officials showing up at Pape Gueye’s home to retrieve it.
