Neymar’s return with Brazil will have to wait a little longer. Sidelined by a calf injury for several weeks, the Santos forward has officially been ruled out of Brazil’s opening match of the 2026 World Cup against Morocco.
Neymar will miss the clash against Morocco, leaving Brazil concerned about their star player’s fitness. Speaking at a press conference, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the Brazilian icon is still unable to resume full team training. However, the head coach remains hopeful of welcoming his number 10 back to the squad next week.
Ancelotti Remains Hopeful Over Neymar’s Recovery
“Neymar is working extremely hard to recover as quickly as possible. We hope he will be fit and able to rejoin the group next week,” Ancelotti said. The Italian manager remains optimistic despite the setback.
Ancelotti also highlighted the importance of the 34-year-old within the squad, both for his exceptional talent and for the experience he brings to younger players. His absence is considered a significant blow for the Seleção at the start of the tournament.
“When you call up Neymar, it’s not only because of his undeniable technical qualities, but also because of his experience and the example he sets for the younger players. But he will not be available against Morocco,” Ancelotti added. While his absence for the opening match is now confirmed, uncertainty remains over Brazil’s upcoming games against Haiti and Scotland. According to reports in the Brazilian media, Neymar could even miss all three group-stage matches.
