What if Karim Benzema hasn’t said his final word with the French national team? More than three years after announcing his international retirement, the Al Hilal striker is once again casting doubt… and reigniting a major storyline.
Karim Benzema may not be done with France just yet. It certainly won’t be under Didier Deschamps. But with his potential successor Zinedine Zidane, why not? During an Instagram live session with rapper Rohff, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner didn’t rule out a comeback: “If I keep performing and stay in shape, you never know.” He added: “I’m doing everything to stay fit in case an opportunity opens up.”
A Possible Comeback Driven by Zidane
This statement is far from trivial, especially in a context where Zinedine Zidane is widely expected to take over the French national team after Didier Deschamps. Naturally, such a scenario is fueling excitement.
Between Benzema and Zidane, the history runs deep. At Real Madrid, the two men won everything together, including three consecutive Champions League titles. A relationship built on trust and respect… one that could carry significant weight.
As early as December 2025, Benzema had already sent a signal in L’Équipe: “Who wouldn’t want to play in a World Cup?” The one next summer seems unlikely. The following one? He’ll be 42 years old—probably too old. But why not a short-term return in the coming months? It will be up to Zidane to decide.
