It is the end of an incredible career. At 74 years old, Vahid Halilhodzic will manage the final match of his coaching career on Sunday during Nantes vs Toulouse.

Vahid Halilhodzic will finish with relegation. Already relegated to Ligue 2, FC Nantes are preparing to close a major chapter with the farewell of the Franco-Bosnian manager, a legendary figure in both French and international football.

“I’m finished, I’ve booked my place in a retirement home. There’s a swimming pool, tennis, a sauna, and I have a great wine card. I deserve it,” he joked in front of reporters.

Still as outspoken and lovable as ever, Halilhodzic explained that he had already shared the joke with his players to ease the tension before his goodbye. Even if the coach still clearly has the energy to remain active, this moment mainly symbolizes the end of a remarkable career marked by spells at Lille, Paris, Nantes, Rennes, and several national teams. On Sunday, French football will say goodbye to one of its last “old-school” managers, as feared as he was respected inside dressing rooms.
