The Girondins de Bordeaux suffered a massive setback this Saturday after missing out on promotion to Ligue 3. The historic French club will not move up next season.
Bordeaux’s ambitious plan to return to Ligue 1 by 2035 has become even more complicated. The club will remain in National 2 next season after a dramatic 3-3 draw away against Avranches.
Bordeaux Collapse Costs Promotion Dream
And yet, Bordeaux had started the match perfectly, taking a 2-0 lead after just 14 minutes before extending their advantage to 3-1 around the hour mark. But the team completely collapsed during the final fifteen minutes.
At the same time, La Roche Vendée Football secured a 2-0 victory over Locminé to confirm promotion to Ligue 3. To make matters even worse for Bordeaux, the club also lost its status as the best second-placed team to Bourges Foot 18. Another painful blow for the Aquitaine side, still stuck in the fourth division two years after being relegated by the DNCG.
