Naples is experiencing extraordinary days. While Massimiliano Allegri is on the verge of becoming the new head coach of the Italian club, another major development is shaking the reigning Italian champions: a bid worth nearly €2 billion has reportedly been submitted to Aurelio De Laurentiis to purchase Napoli.
According to several Italian media outlets, Massimiliano Allegri has reached a full agreement with Napoli’s management to replace Antonio Conte, who recently stepped down. Just days after leaving AC Milan, the Italian coach is preparing for a new challenge on Napoli’s bench with the ambition of continuing the club’s rise on the European stage.
A Record-Breaking Bid for Napoli
However, the real sensation is happening behind the scenes. According to The Athletic, an American consortium called Underdog Global Partners has submitted a massive offer estimated at nearly €2 billion to acquire the club from southern Italy.
The American investors reportedly have ambitious plans. Their goal would be to transform Napoli into an even greater force in European football, following a path similar to the growth experienced by clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City after changes in ownership.
There is one major obstacle: Aurelio De Laurentiis. In charge of Napoli since 2004, the Italian producer rescued the club after bankruptcy and rebuilt it into one of Europe’s leading teams, winning several domestic titles along the way.
According to The Athletic, the Napoli president has so far rejected the spectacular approach, although discussions are reportedly continuing discreetly. The investors are also said to have a broader vision, with Napoli potentially becoming a key part of a future NBA Europe-related project. Between Allegri’s imminent arrival and this record-breaking €2 billion offer, Napoli appears to be entering one of the most significant turning points in its history.
