Olympique de Marseille is entering a new chapter in its organizational structure. As expected for several weeks, Grégory Lorenzi has officially been appointed as the club’s new sporting director. The former Stade Brestois executive succeeds Medhi Benatia at a crucial moment for OM, following the disappointment of missing out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Marseille has found its new key figure. Grégory Lorenzi arrives at a club shaken by a disastrous campaign. In an official statement, OM confirmed the appointment of the man who built a strong reputation at Brest through his highly praised work in recruitment and sporting development.

The new sporting director has already outlined his ambitions in an interview with L’Équipe. “OM is a historic club, very special, very popular, and very exciting. It’s up to us to find the right balance between the sporting project and our economic reality,” Lorenzi explained, fully aware of the challenges facing the club in a more restrictive financial environment.

However, the former Brest executive insists that he has no intention of applying the same methods in Marseille that he used in Brittany. “I’m not going to turn Marseille into Brest,” he said, before clarifying his main objective: “The goal is to restore calm and stability.” Beyond immediate results, Lorenzi wants to build a team capable of creating a strong connection with the Vélodrome. “We need to build a collective with players who can create a bond and an identity,” he emphasized, a vision designed to help supporters identify with a new-look Marseille side as the club prepares to launch a new cycle in the coming months.
