A major departure in French refereeing. After Stéphanie Frappart, Benoît Bastien has also decided to bring his professional refereeing career to an end.
Following Frappart, Benoît Bastien is also hanging up his whistle. At 42, the French referee had been officiating at the highest level for fifteen years. He was one of the most recognizable faces of refereeing in Ligue 1, with solid experience on both French and European pitches.
A new role within French refereeing structures
According to Vosges Matin, relayed by L’Équipe, Benoît Bastien is not expected to completely step away from the world of refereeing. He is now set to join the refereeing department of the French Football Federation.
