Didier Deschamps was asked about a highly symbolic decision. FIFA reportedly refused to allow France players to wear a black armband in tribute to his mother, who recently passed away.
Deschamps responded to FIFA’s refusal over the black armband. At a press conference, journalists brought up the decision, as Les Bleus had wanted to wear a black armband against Norway. Faced with the question, the France coach answered with great restraint. Touched by the messages of support he has received in recent days, Didier Deschamps did not want to fuel the controversy.

“I don’t know what to say. Through what the players, the staff did, and all the messages I received, that is not what changes anything,” the France coach said.
Deschamps also explained that he did not know whether such a gesture was actually allowed under FIFA regulations. But for him, the main point was elsewhere. “I don’t know whether it was possible to wear it or not, it honestly does not change much. I did not need that to have an extra sign of support,” he added.
It was a dignified and measured response from Didier Deschamps, who preferred to highlight the support he received from his players, staff and close circle rather than dwell on FIFA’s decision.
