Kylian Mbappé continues to pile up records with the France national team. After scoring twice against Sweden (3-0) on Tuesday in the World Cup round of 32, the Les Bleus captain once again made history for his country.
With those two new goals, Kylian Mbappé now has ten goals in the knockout stage of major tournaments, combining the World Cup and the Euros. That total allows him to move past Antoine Griezmann, who had previously been France’s benchmark in this area with eight goals.
Mbappé Becomes France’s Knockout-Stage Reference
The symbolism is strong. Griezmann was long one of France’s great men in the biggest matches, but Mbappé has just reached another milestone. At 27, the French forward is confirming his status as a decisive player when the pressure rises.
Griezmann 8, Mbappé 10. No one has done better in the history of the France national team. Already impressive with his overall statistics, Mbappé is above all building his legend in the matches that matter most.
After carrying Les Bleus against Sweden, the France captain now turns his attention to the rest of the competition. And at this pace, more records may still fall.
