Illia Zabarnyi will wear the legendary No. 6 shirt left vacant by Marco Verratti — a clear sign of confidence from Paris Saint-Germain.
The club has officially announced the 22-year-old Ukrainian’s arrival on a five-year deal, making him the first player from Ukraine in PSG’s history. A rock-solid centre-back, Zabarnyi has built a reputation for composure, aerial strength, and sharp reading of the game.
A product of Dynamo Kyiv, he quickly became a key figure, winning multiple domestic titles and featuring in the Champions League. Moving to Bournemouth in 2023, he excelled in the Premier League, playing 37 games last season and being voted Player of the Year by the fans. With 49 international caps, he is already a cornerstone of Ukraine’s defence.
“I’m here to give everything I have on the pitch”
“We are pleased to continue strengthening our squad with the signing of Illia Zabarnyi. Illia is a talented international player and a great professional — he will make a major contribution to everything we are building for the long term at Paris Saint-Germain,” said Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
For his part, the new PSG No. 6 couldn’t hide his excitement: “I am very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain, the best club in the world, with the best project. I’m here to give everything I have on the pitch and I can’t wait to make my debut and meet the fans.”
