Lucas Vázquez to Leave Real Madrid After Exceptional Career, Confirmed. But he could have stayed…
The generational shift continues at Real Madrid, as veteran Lucas Vázquez will bid farewell to the club after the Club World Cup.
The 33-year-old right-back and the Merengue club have mutually agreed not to renew his contract, which expires in June, according to Relevo. Vázquez has been a key player for the club since joining their academy in 2007, with the exception of a loan to Espanyol during the 2014-2015 season.
Álvaro Carreras to Arrive
Despite receiving a contract extension offer, the two sides were not on the same page, and a separation became inevitable. Vázquez was looking for more than just the one-year extension that was proposed.
Vázquez leaves Madrid with an incredible trophy haul: five Champions Leagues, four La Liga titles, and many other honors. The player has offers from Europe and beyond. Real Madrid will replace him with Álvaro Carreras.
