Raúl González Blanco, the legendary former player, will leave his role as head coach of Real Madrid Castilla after five years of loyal service.
His departure comes after the announcement of Xabi Alonso’s appointment as first-team coach, a move that has left Raúl disheartened, as he had hoped to take over following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure to the Brazilian national team.
Departure Driven by Alonso’s Promotion
Raúl is stepping down from his role at Castilla, where he led the reserve team to victory in the 2020 Youth League. The team is currently in sixth place in the Tercera RFEF.
Alvaro Arbeloa, another former club player, is expected to replace Raúl as the Castilla manager. During his tenure, Raúl oversaw the sale of several young talents for a total of €55 million.
This marks the end of an era for Raúl at the club, with his aspirations to manage the senior team dashed in favor of Alonso’s promotion.
