The controversy surrounding Olympique de Marseille’s new emblem continues to grow… and this time, a prominent voice has joined the criticism. Appearing on BFM Marseille Provence, the city’s mayor, Benoît Payan, made it clear he strongly disapproves of the club’s new visual identity.
The backlash is not only ongoing but intensifying. Now, the mayor of Marseille himself has stepped into the debate. Like many supporters, Benoît Payan openly criticized OM’s new logo.
A Logo That Sparks Outrage
And he certainly didn’t hold back: “It’s horrible. I’ve seen logos before, but ones this ugly—never. It’s a mistake, and it needs to be fixed.” A blunt statement that further fuels the already heated debate surrounding this change.
For the Marseille mayor, the new design simply does not align with the club’s history or DNA. He sees it as a symbol too far removed from OM’s strong identity, despite supporters of the project claiming fans will eventually get used to it.
With such a strong stance, the opposition takes on a whole new dimension. When the mayor himself gets involved, it becomes difficult for the club to ignore the storm—and the pressure surrounding this unpopular logo keeps rising.
