OM almost Over, Mason Greenwood Has Chosen Next Club

The Mason Greenwood saga has taken another twist. While a move to Fenerbahçe appeared to be gaining momentum in recent weeks, the Turkish option has suddenly cooled following the presidential election at the Istanbul club.

Greenwood will not be heading to Turkey. According to several reports, the Marseille forward had given his approval to Hakan Safi, a candidate for the Fenerbahçe presidency, to join the Turkish giants if he won the election. However, the vote produced a different outcome. Aziz Yildirim secured a convincing victory, pushing his rival’s transfer plans into the background.

As a result, several major transfer targets are expected to be dropped, including Greenwood, as well as Luis Suarez, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Merih Demiral. While this is disappointing news for Fenerbahçe, it could work in Marseille’s favor.

Despite the collapse of the Turkish option, Greenwood still appears likely to leave this summer. According to Corriere dello Sport, the English winger has already given his preliminary approval to join AS Roma. The Italian club is currently the most active suitor and is reportedly offering a contract worth €4 million per season, with wages increasing over time.

The remaining challenge is reaching an agreement with Marseille. OM are demanding at least €50 million, excluding bonuses, for their top scorer of the season, who netted 16 Ligue 1 goals. Roma, meanwhile, are said to have submitted an offer worth around €40 million. Negotiations are ongoing, but the trend is clear: Greenwood is moving closer and closer to a switch to Serie A.
