The Medhi Benatia saga is heating up again: could the former Olympique de Marseille sporting director one day end up… at PSG?
Medhi Benatia clearly has no issue crossing rival lines. During the latest episode of The Bridge with Paul Pogba and Aurélien Tchouaméni, the recently resigned OM executive did not rule out a future move to Paris Saint-Germain. The idea sounds outrageous in Marseille, but the former Moroccan international appeared completely open to it. Very close to Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Benatia once again highlighted the huge respect he has for the PSG president.
Benatia Opens the Door to PSG
That relationship had already caused outrage among Marseille supporters in the past. In a previous interview, Benatia openly admitted he supported PSG in the Champions League for the sake of French football. “I was asked who I supported in the Champions League. With the relationship I have today with Nasser, and because it’s a French club, I said PSG. I hope they go as far as possible,” he explained at the time.
But this time, Benatia went even further. Asked about a potential future role at PSG, the former defender left the door wide open. “If in 3, 4 or 5 years Nasser needs me… why not?” he admitted, while also saying he wanted to step away from football for several years first.
Those comments are likely to create major discomfort on the Marseille side. After already showing his closeness to Nasser Al-Khelaïfi publicly, Benatia is now openly considering a future with PSG. The big question now is whether Paris would really want to bring in someone surrounded by so much controversy after the turbulence seen in Marseille this season.
