It’s settled: Ibrahima Konaté will not be joining Real Madrid. According to The Athletic, the Spanish giants have officially informed Liverpool that they are ending their pursuit of the French defender.
Long targeted by Los Blancos, Konaté had already slipped down the priority list in recent weeks. His recent performances appear to have convinced Real Madrid to walk away from the deal entirely.
Instead, the club is now turning to another French center-back: Dayot Upamecano, currently struggling at Bayern Munich but still highly valued within the Madrid hierarchy.
A contract extension for Konaté?
While Real Madrid changes course, Liverpool are in active talks with Konaté’s representatives regarding a contract extension, with his current deal set to expire next June.
As for Konaté, the summer of 2026 could keep him at Anfield… or lead him elsewhere. PSG are also in the race, viewing him as a potential successor should Marquinhos leave.
