Gianluigi Donnarumma’s time at PSG has come to an end as the Italian goalkeeper makes a high-profile move to Manchester City for €35 million, including bonuses.

At just 26 years old, Donnarumma is exiting the French capital after being overshadowed by the arrival of Lucas Chevalier, who was signed for €55 million. This transfer marks a significant shift for both clubs, as PSG officially confirms the deal, and Donnarumma commits to the Citizens until June 2030, with an impressive annual salary of €12 million.

Having joined PSG on a free transfer in 2021, Donnarumma experienced his share of ups and downs while donning the iconic red and blue. Nevertheless, he will always be remembered as one of the heroes of PSG’s first Champions League triumph. The club expressed their gratitude in an official statement, thanking Gianluigi for his contributions and wishing him success in his future endeavors.

A Major Shift in Football Dynamics

As PSG turns a new page, Manchester City secures a world-class goalkeeper to bolster their defense. This transfer comes as Ederson, the Brazilian keeper, departs for Fenerbahçe in a deal worth around €15 million. Ederson leaves Manchester City after an impressive six-year stint that saw him play 372 matches and claim 18 trophies, including six Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy.

Donnarumma’s transfer sets a historic precedent in football and geopolitics. Since the acquisitions of Abu Dhabi in 2008 and QSI in 2011, the two clubs had never engaged in a direct player transaction for their first teams.

Previously, only a handful of isolated cases existed, but now, with Donnarumma’s arrival, this marks the first major transfer linking two clubs that regularly meet in the Champions League but have never traded players directly.
