While Lucas Chevalier’s future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks, a development within Paris Saint-Germain’s academy appears to have clarified the situation. Things are moving in PSG’s goalkeeping department.
According to several reports, young goalkeeper Martin James has decided to leave PSG despite being offered a professional contract. Considered one of the club’s brightest prospects in his position, he seemed destined to gradually join the first-team setup.
Chevalier Ready to Fight for His Place
This departure is probably not insignificant. If Lucas Chevalier had genuinely planned to leave Paris this summer after a difficult season, PSG’s management would likely have accelerated Martin James’ promotion within the goalkeeping hierarchy.
Signed from Lille as the club’s future first-choice goalkeeper, Chevalier endured a challenging debut season in the French capital. His performances failed to convince, allowing Matvey Safonov to gradually establish himself higher in PSG’s pecking order.
Despite interest from several English clubs, the French goalkeeper does not appear ready to give up. Martin James’ departure could even be seen as a strong indication that Chevalier will remain at PSG next season. At 24, the former Lille shot-stopper seems determined to fight for his place and revive his career in Paris, hoping to earn a second chance between the posts.
