The name of Mohamed Bouhafsi has entered the race for the presidency of Olympique de Marseille. According to Daniel Riolo, the journalist and Mediawan executive is among the profiles being considered to succeed Pablo Longoria, amid significant behind-the-scenes changes. A
nother journalist at the helm of OM? After Christophe Bouchet and Pape Diouf, Mohamed Bouhafsi emerges as a surprising candidate, as revealed by Daniel Riolo. With OM preparing for a turbulent offseason marked by the expected departures of Pablo Longoria and Medhi Benatia, the question of succession is already central to discussions.
A credible yet unexpected candidate for OM leadership
Speaking on RMC, Daniel Riolo stated that “the name circulating the most is Mohamed Bouhafsi,” suggesting an unexpected but credible choice for owner Frank McCourt. The pundit did not hide his enthusiasm for this atypical profile.
“A profile that I find excellent for this role. From a sporting, political, or Marseille societal perspective, he ticks all the boxes,” he explained, highlighting Bouhafsi’s strong network in football and his close ties with key figures within the club and its environment. An unconventional but convincing profile While his lack of experience leading a football club may raise questions, Riolo dismisses this argument.
“He doesn’t have experience running a football club, but neither did Michel Denisot, nor Jean-Michel Aulas,” he noted, also mentioning Nasser al-Khelaïfi to illustrate the absence of a typical career path for such a role. Moreover, Mohamed Bouhafsi himself is reportedly interested in the challenge. “I know it interests him, I know it’s one of his life goals,” Riolo said. A possibility that remains far from official, but one that is gaining momentum as OM prepares for a major turning point in its history.
