The clash between Atlético Madrid and Arsenal (1-1) turned into controversy. Late in the match, a penalty awarded to the Gunners was ultimately overturned after VAR intervention, a decision that has not gone down well.
Viktor Gyökeres, who scored during the game, did not hide his confusion following the reversal. In his view, Arsenal should have been given that final opportunity.
Gyökeres Questions Controversial VAR Decision
“In the first half, I think we controlled the match quite well. We managed to score, then in the second half, I think they played better than us. They had many chances. We defended fairly well, with a few attacking situations at the end of the match. I believe we should have had a penalty, I don’t understand why they eventually refused it,” said the Swedish striker, who opened the scoring, speaking to Canal+.
Despite the frustration, the Swedish forward remains hopeful: “There’s still one match left, it’s not over.”
