Achraf Hakimi isn’t hiding anymore — he wants the Ballon d’Or. And he doesn’t care if that ruffles feathers inside the club.
According to L’Équipe, PSG, which had chosen to push Ousmane Dembélé as their No.1 candidate, attempted to cut from his Canal+ interview the part where the Moroccan right-back declared:
“If I have the chance to win it, I think I deserve it too… The stats I’ve had this year are not those of a normal defender. I think when a defender does that, he deserves it more than a striker.”
PSG denies, but…
The club’s goal was to avoid any public comments that might ignite tensions in the dressing room. Officially, PSG denies any attempt to interfere, but L’Équipe insists the request was made.
Hakimi, who racked up 11 goals and 18 assists this season, refused to back down. While his remarks surprised people in Dembélé’s camp, there’s no sign of an open clash: “The most important thing for us remains the collective… everyone is free to say what they want,”
said the French winger’s entourage.
Whether this symbolic battle for the Ballon d’Or stays friendly or starts to spice up PSG’s dressing room remains to be seen.
