A terrible blow for FC Barcelona. Andreas Christensen suffered a serious injury in training on Saturday, hurting his left knee. The Catalan club confirmed on Sunday a partial rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, caused by an awkward movement.
Really bad luck for Andreas Christensen. Already often hampered by physical issues since his arrival in Catalonia, the 29-year-old Danish defender sees his season brutally brought to a halt.
Barcelona forced to rethink its defensive options
Barça has opted for a conservative treatment, but the absence could last up to four months, according to the Spanish press. A shock, especially as Christensen was coming off a convincing performance and a goal in the Copa del Rey against Guadalajara.
This new injury further weakens a defensive unit already under pressure. Internally, the possibility of a medical joker is now being considered, with La Liga regulations potentially allowing the Blaugrana to use 40 to 50% of the player’s annual salary (around €13 million) to recruit a replacement this winter.
