Liverpool’s 2–1 victory away at Tottenham left a bitter taste for the Reds. Despite returning from north London with all three points, Alexander Isak paid a heavy price.
Coming off the bench, the Swedish striker opened the scoring in the 56th minute after being set up by Florian Wirtz, but was injured at the same time to his left ankle following contact with Van de Ven. Clearly hurt, Isak immediately collapsed on the pitch, unable to celebrate his goal, before leaving the field in tears.
A goal overshadowed by a serious concern
In his post-match press conference, Arne Slot did little to reassure. “It’s usually not a good sign when a player can’t even try to continue,” admitted the Reds’ coach, while stressing that no precise medical diagnosis was yet available. He also compared the situation to that of Conor Bradley, who had attempted to carry on before being substituted, unlike Isak, who was forced off immediately.

Signed last summer from Newcastle United, the 26-year-old has endured a difficult start to the season, hampered by recurring physical issues. This latest setback is all the more frustrating as the goal was meant to be a turning point for his confidence. Liverpool now hope the injury will not prove too serious.
