After their resounding 4-0 victory over Ukraine on November 13 at the Parc des Princes, securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup, Les Bleus received an unexpected reward: a doubled bonus.
Driven by captain Kylian Mbappé, the request was quickly approved by Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation. As a result, the individual win bonus increased from around €21,000 to €42,000. Head coach Didier Deschamps, his assistants and the staff also benefited from this raise.
French Football Federation Defends Double Bonus Decision
The decision surprised some internally, with critics arguing that qualifying for the World Cup has become the norm for the France national football team. Diallo stands by the move. According to him, this exceptional bonus was intended to acknowledge their contribution.
“There is no controversy,” insisted the head of French football. “I consider that the France national team is the economic engine of the federation. At that moment, after this qualification, it was an opportunity to recognize its contribution. It was in this spirit that the double bonus was granted.” Attention now turns to 2026: after lifting the trophy in 2018 and reaching the final in 2022, the French side will aim to shine once again at the World Cup hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
