French football is in mourning. Serge Roy, the oldest of the former French internationals and father of the current coach of Stade Brestois Éric Roy, passed away this Friday at the age of 93.
Trained in Beaune, the former forward had a rich career, notably playing for Besançon, Monaco, Marseille, Valenciennes, and Nice. Until now, he was the oldest living former French international.
Serge Roy had worn the France national team jersey only once, in 1961, yet he left his mark on the history of French football. A respected, discreet figure, and deeply attached to the game, his passing saddens the football world.
