Shock for the former Real Madrid coach: Carlo Ancelotti has been sentenced to one year in prison and fined €386,000 for tax fraud by a Madrid court.
Ancelotti was found guilty of failing to declare image rights income in 2014 while managing Real Madrid. However, he was cleared of similar charges for 2015.
The Spanish prosecutor had initially requested nearly five years in prison and a €3.2 million fine, but the sentence was significantly reduced. Under Spanish law, a non-violent sentence under two years does not result in actual imprisonment, unless there’s a repeat offense.
Ancelotti just followed instructions from the Madrid
Now manager of the Brazilian national team, Ancelotti (66) defended himself by claiming he had simply followed instructions from the Madrid club.
