Rayan Cherki and Manchester City are a perfect match! Starting for the fourth game in a row, the French attacking midfielder made a strong impression on Wednesday against Brentford (2–0) in the League Cup, scoring a stunning goal to open the scoring.
Cherki is steadily establishing himself at City. After a poorly cleared corner, the Frenchman picked up the ball at the edge of the box and unleashed a sublime right-footed strike—despite that foot being considered his “weaker” one. The result was a perfectly curled shot that flew into the top corner, a moment of pure class that quickly went viral.
An unforgettable strike with his weaker foot
This spectacular goal did not go unnoticed by Pep Guardiola. Speaking to Sky Sports, the City manager could not hide his admiration and enthusiasm for what he had just witnessed on the pitch.
“What a goal! What a goal! Even a blind man could see it. You don’t need to be a journalist or a coach. It was absolutely fantastic,” Guardiola said, even comparing the strike to memorable goals previously scored by Phil Foden or Kevin De Bruyne. With four goals in 17 appearances in all competitions, Cherki continues to show his growing influence for the Citizens, and this gem against Brentford may only be the beginning.
