Rayan Cherki could have been wearing a PSG shirt today. According to revelations from Le Parisien, a move to the French champions was very close in the summer of 2024, but the deal ultimately collapsed, leaving deep frustration within the Parisian hierarchy.
The talented attacking midfielder was reportedly the subject of advanced negotiations between PSG and Olympique Lyonnais, with a transfer fee estimated at around €15 million. Had the move gone through, Cherki might have been part of PSG’s recent European success and added Champions League titles to his résumé.
The Transfer That Changed Everything
The problem emerged when PSG executives allegedly discovered that Cherki was simultaneously holding talks with Borussia Dortmund. That revelation reportedly angered both Luis Campos and Luis Enrique, who are known for wanting players fully committed to the Parisian project.
According to Le Parisien journalist Laurent Perrin, Campos reacted furiously. He claims the Portuguese sporting advisor personally called the player and bluntly told him that he would never play for PSG. Cherki’s hesitation was reportedly viewed as a lack of commitment and trust.
In the end, Cherki joined neither PSG nor Dortmund at the time and eventually moved to Manchester City a year later. However, the episode appears to have left lasting scars and may have permanently closed the door to a future move to the Parc des Princes for the French star.
