Just days before what will be his final World Cup as France manager, Didier Deschamps spoke about his future and admitted that several major European clubs had approached him during his career, including Real Madrid.

In an interview with the Spanish newspaper Marca, the France head coach confirmed that his name had indeed been linked with the Spanish giants on multiple occasions. “I was on the lists of candidates. My son used to tell me that as a joke. For two years, I was on almost every shortlist. Was there something with Real Madrid? I’m not going to go into details,” Deschamps explained.

The former France captain also acknowledged that he had received several offers throughout his managerial career. “Have I had proposals? Yes, of course,” he added, while choosing not to reveal further details about the clubs involved.

Despite those prestigious opportunities, Deschamps has remained committed to his role with the French national team, which he has managed since 2012. With the 2026 World Cup approaching, he insisted that his sole focus remains on leading France in the tournament.

As his long tenure with Les Bleus nears its conclusion, Deschamps continues to keep his future plans under wraps. One thing is certain: Real Madrid seriously considered him in the past, but the move never materialized. In the end, it will be José Mourinho who officially takes charge of the Spanish club in early July.
