A shocking break-in at Platini’s home near Marseille leaves him without some of his most prized memorabilia.
Former French football icon and ex-UEFA president Michel Platini was the victim of a burglary early Friday morning, July 18, around 5:30 a.m., at his residence near Marseille in the Bouches-du-Rhône region.
Awakened by a suspicious noise coming from his garden, Platini came face to face with a masked individual dressed in black at his patio door. The intruder immediately fled the scene, according to RTL.
Investigation launched
Upon checking his property, Platini discovered signs of forced entry, particularly in a garden shed where he kept a number of trophies and medals from his illustrious career. The result: around 20 pieces of memorabilia are missing.
While the full value of the stolen items is still being assessed, Platini — shaken but unharmed — immediately contacted authorities. The Marseille prosecutor’s office confirmed a formal investigation has been opened for aggravated burglary, and local gendarmes have taken over the case.
