Michael Olise appears to have won his bet. After a quiet first half on the right flank against Senegal (3-1), the Bayern Munich star completely transformed France’s attacking play by moving into a central role after the break.
Olise is set to be handed the keys to the French team. His performance reportedly convinced Didier Deschamps and his coaching staff. According to Canal+, Olise is expected to keep the number 10 role for France’s next World Cup 2026 match against Iraq on Monday.
Olise Takes Control of France’s Attack
The decision could have direct consequences for Ousmane Dembélé. If the PSG forward starts, he is expected to be shifted back to the right wing, a position where he was far less influential against Senegal.
Dembélé was notably the first attacking player substituted on Tuesday night, leaving the pitch in the 80th minute. Just two minutes later, his replacement Bradley Barcola found the net, further increasing competition in France’s attacking department.
With only a few days remaining before the clash against Iraq, Olise seems to have gained a clear advantage in France’s offensive setup. It is excellent news for the Bayern playmaker, but far less encouraging for Dembélé.
