France National Team: A Tough Nations League Draw for Zidane

A heavyweight draw for Les Bleus and the start of a new era. The France national team now knows its opponents for the 2026–27 Nations League, an edition that will mark the post-Didier Deschamps period on the bench. His successor has not yet been officially announced, but Zinédine Zidane is increasingly emerging as the leading option.

The draw held in Brussels places France in Group A1 alongside Italy, Belgium, and Turkey. It is a dense group filled with history and rivalries. However, France avoids England and Spain, who end up in another highly competitive group.

The matchups promise to be fierce: a classic showdown against Italy, a recent favorable run against Belgium, and tense reunions with Turkey, whom France has not beaten in an official match for a long time. It will be a true test for the future head coach.

The format is also changing: the six group matches will be concentrated into two international windows between late September and mid-November 2026. The quarterfinals will take place in March 2027, followed by the Final Four in June.

The stage is set for France: a demanding group, a historic transition on the bench, and possibly the beginning of the Zidane era straight into top-level competition.
