Monday night in Villeneuve-d’Ascq was a special occasion for Didier Deschamps. In what was his final match on French soil before stepping down after the 2026 World Cup, the France manager received numerous displays of affection from supporters during Les Bleus’ 3-1 victory over Northern Ireland. Despite the warm tribute, he insisted that this is not the time for emotion.

After fourteen years in charge of the French national team, Deschamps recognizes the significance of the moment but refuses to be overwhelmed by nostalgia with the World Cup fast approaching.
