Just three days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, former UEFA president Michel Platini has filed a complaint against Gianni Infantino, accusing him of influence peddling and malicious denunciation.
Michel Platini has gone back on the offensive. The former France captain claims that his longtime right-hand man at UEFA played a role in the affair that led to his downfall at the top of world football. Two former FIFA officials are also targeted by the legal action.
Platini Revives FIFA Power Struggle
At the center of the case is the controversial payment Platini received from FIFA, which resulted in his suspension and eventual removal from football’s governing circles. After years of legal battles, the Frenchman was ultimately cleared by the courts.
However, Platini insists the matter is far from over. Believing he was the victim of a conspiracy designed to prevent him from becoming FIFA president, he now wants answers and seeks to hold those he considers responsible accountable.
The timing of the complaint is impossible to ignore. As Gianni Infantino prepares to launch the 2026 World Cup, this latest legal move could reignite one of the biggest power struggles in the recent history of world football.
