After France’s dramatic 5–4 defeat to Spain in the Nations League semi-final, Kylian Mbappé left the pitch visibly frustrated. The French captain had strong words—both on the officiating and the makeshift defense fielded by Didier Deschamps.
Speaking to TF1, Mbappé explained his heated post-match exchange with the referee: “It was about the actual playing time during stoppage time. If five minutes are added, we should play five minutes. When they’re done, that’s not when you blow the whistle.”
“I’m a sore loser…”
He added with some restraint: “But if I talk too much, people will just say I’m a sore loser…”
Mbappé also addressed criticism of France’s backline, composed of Kalulu, Konaté, Lenglet, and Théo Hernandez: “That’s not an excuse. These are top-level players. They did what they could. It wasn’t all bad tonight. But yeah, we’re gutted, of course.”
A frustrated but composed captain, Mbappé summed up the night well: Les Bleus fell short—and they know it.
