Sidney Govou revealed that he narrowly escaped a dramatic situation after a patellar tendon operation. The former French international explains that a doctor even advised him to consider amputation, as the situation seemed critical.

According to his statements reported by Le Parisien, it was an infection contracted in the hospital that nearly cost him part of his left leg. Govou recounts that after his operation, a staphylococcus infection developed, causing extreme pain and a rapid deterioration of his condition.

Under morphine and overwhelmed by pain, he admits that he accepted the idea of amputation at that moment. He explains that he was no longer in a state to grasp the implications of that decision. “I was under morphine and in so much pain that I said yes. I was high from the pain,” he says.

Ultimately, his close circle, including his agent, surgeon, and ex-wife, convinced him not to go through with it. A crucial choice that allowed him to avoid an irreversible outcome and continue his recovery.
