Back in the French national team at the age of 32 in October 2025, Florian Thauvin has a clear objective: to play in the 2026 World Cup. Despite being absent from the last training camp in the United States, the RC Lens player continues to believe.

Florian Thauvin keeps hoping, but he likely knows it is already over. The former 2018 World Cup champion remains realistic: unless there is a huge surprise, the tournament will probably take place without him. If head coach Didier Deschamps decides to leave him out, he will not make a big deal out of it.

A team-first mindset despite uncertainty

“I will forgive him, just as I forgave him when I was called up but not even on the bench. We have a coach who makes choices for the greater good, whether the player is happy or not, it doesn’t matter.”

“Even though I sincerely hope to be part of the journey, no matter what happens, I wish the best for France and Didier. It will be his last competition, I hope he wins it, and I am deeply convinced that he is the best person to lead us to another victory,” he told L’Équipe.

A humble and team-oriented message, reflecting a player ready to relive one last great adventure with Les Bleus—or to support his teammates no matter what happens.
