Tension reached its peak at FC Nantes after the draw conceded against Stade Brestois 29 (1-1). Sent off at the end of the match after fiercely protesting a red card given to Dehmaine Tabibou, Vahid Halilhodzic did not hide his anger.
FC Nantes are edging closer to Ligue 2. And Vahid Halilhodzic is sinking with the ship. Brought in on a rescue mission, he was sent off during this weekend’s match. “Of course I’m angry, with huge incomprehension. I didn’t understand that red card. I didn’t always understand the refereeing decisions today. Why all this? I don’t know. I don’t know this referee, he’s young.”
Fury Over Controversial Refereeing Decisions
“I was told not to speak too much because I could be suspended. But I don’t care about the suspension. I could even get 10 years, because I’m done with football. But when I see injustices like that, I have to react. It’s subjective, sure, but I didn’t understand any of it,” the Bosnian coach first explained to Ligue 1+.
Still visibly furious, the Nantes coach then detailed his exchange with the referee: “So I called the referee to explain all this to me. Why a red card? I’m asking for explanations. There must be respect, sir! Who does he think he is?”
“My players gave everything today, we deserved to win, even with ten men, we managed to create chances. So yes, there’s frustration, anger, I don’t know what words to use to explain my state, and the same goes for my players.” An outburst that could prove costly for Halilhodzic, now facing a heavy suspension.
