Ousmane Dembélé is no longer dodging the question. After a stunning season with PSG — 35 goals, 16 assists, four trophies including Ligue 1 and the Champions League — the French winger has officially staked his claim for football’s ultimate prize: the Ballon d’Or.
In an interview with FourFourTwo, Dembélé admitted he now embraces the spotlight: “It’s normal to be considered a favourite. The Ballon d’Or is the Holy Grail of football. When you look at the legends who have won it, it’s exceptional.”
He even revealed that teammates often teased him about it: “People would shout ‘Ballon d’Or! Ballon d’Or!’ when they saw me. But Luis Enrique, the staff and the squad stayed focused on the team, especially the Champions League final.”
Ambitious and confident, Dembélé summed it up: “After a season like this, with goals, assists and four titles, it’s only natural to be among the favourites”.
