As the next municipal elections in Lyon draw closer, Jean-Michel Aulas is emerging as one of the serious candidates for the mayor’s office. The former president of Olympique Lyonnais has just received a major endorsement, and not from just anyone: Karim Benzema.
Invited on a program on LCI, the Al-Ittihad striker did not hide his opinion about the city’s current situation and Aulas’s ability to embody change. He expressed his confidence in the former club executive’s vision for Lyon.
A High-Profile Endorsement for Change in Lyon
According to Benzema, Lyon is going through a difficult period, marked by constant construction work, heavy traffic, and projects that struggle to move forward. A situation that, in his view, does not live up to the city’s stature.
“A city like Lyon deserves much better. I am with him with all my heart; I think he has the ability and the ambition to move the city forward and make Lyon what it used to be again,” Benzema explained.
This is a strong symbolic and media endorsement for Jean-Michel Aulas, who sees his candidacy strengthened by the public support of one of the greatest figures to come out of the Lyon club.
