Mason Greenwood, 23, has received a passport to represent Jamaica but turned down the call from the Reggae Boyz during this international break. Is he angling for a spot with England instead?
With the World Cup on the horizon, Greenwood is keen to participate, but the question remains: which national team will he choose? The Marseille striker put pressure on England by accepting the Jamaican passport but opted not to answer Jamaica’s selection call.
Could the Olympique de Marseille forward be making a play for a comeback with the Three Lions? England manager Thomas Tuchel addressed the situation in a recent press conference, attempting to temper expectations.
Greenwood’s Future with England
Tuchel clarified, “I haven’t spoken to him yet. I’ve had no contact with him or his team. I understood he wanted to play for Jamaica, so we stopped considering him. He’s not in our plans right now, but I’m not ruling anything out. It’s just not a priority.”
It’s worth noting that Greenwood was suspended by the English Football Association following serious allegations from his partner. A return to the national team seems unlikely at this point.
