Kylian Mbappé is making waves in French football history. After scoring against Ukraine in a 2-0 victory, the Real Madrid striker netted his 51st goal for the national team, tying him with Thierry Henry for second place in France’s all-time scoring charts. Only Olivier Giroud, with 57 goals, stands ahead of him for now.
Staying true to his ambitious nature, Mbappé expressed his desire to surpass Henry, saying, “Big up Titi (smile), but I want to go beyond that now! It’s an honor to equal a player like him; everyone knows what he represents, especially for strikers. I have a lot of admiration for him”.
“To reach such numbers so early is extraordinary, but I love it. I don’t want to stop now!”
Mbappé’s Honest Reflection on Missed Chances
When asked about a missed chance at the end of the match, the French captain candidly admitted, “That was mostly just stupidity. A move like that is only beautiful if it works. Next time, I need to score it… or not attempt it at all.”
At just 26 years old and with 91 caps, Mbappé is closing in on Giroud’s record. He acknowledged that becoming the top scorer in French team history “would mean a lot.”
