Kylian Mbappé is under unexpected scrutiny. According to Le Canard Enchaîné, five French CRS officers assigned to the national team’s security received a total of €180,300 from the Real Madrid star in 2023. France’s internal police watchdog, the IGPN, has launched an administrative investigation to clarify the nature of the payment.
Reportedly, four brigadier-chiefs each received €30,000, while their commanding officer was handed €60,300. The funds were transferred from an account in Mbappé’s name, apparently as part of a goodwill gesture tied to his World Cup bonus from Qatar.
In a signed statement, Mbappé said he wanted to share his bonus with the security team and various charities. He added that he consulted a tax attorney, who confirmed such donations didn’t require tax declarations from the recipients.
However, the IGPN is questioning whether these were truly personal gifts—or payments for private security, especially as the commander accompanied Mbappé on personal trips to Cameroon and southern France. That officer is now under particular scrutiny for a potential breach of integrity. Mbappé has stated he is “ready to answer any questions.”
