Paul Pogba signed a two-year contract with AS Monaco after his long suspension for doping… But his return is still awaited. The club, previously positive and optimistic, seems to be changing its tone.
Many expected Paul Pogba to be on the pitch in Ligue 1 by September. Ultimately, that was too soon. Then, while a return seemed close at the end of October, an ankle sprain pushed everything back once again. Monaco’s coach Sébastien Pocognoli, initially optimistic about a return before or just after the international break, has since been much more cautious in an interview with AFP.
He explains that Pogba is working hard, remains motivated, and keeps smiling during training, but it is impossible to predict when he will actually play again. His ability to return in time to hope for a spot with the national team or aim for the 2026 World Cup remains very uncertain.
“Paul has a strong character”
“I hope so. But the last time I said that… So I try not to get ahead of myself too much. It will happen when it is meant to happen. All I can say is that when he is on the field, I see someone who is happy and focused on getting back to the highest level. There is no doubt.”
“My role now is to help him with the staff. And if we can, even just bring a smile to his face during professional matches, that will be something fantastic. Will it be easy? I can’t say. But we are working on it, and Paul has a strong character. I think the mind controls a lot of things,” said the new coach of ASM.
